In an economic environment that continues to prove challenging to all of us in the arts community, I cannot reflect on the 2012-2013 season without first thanking our supporters, donors, patrons, and partners in the community. Without you, we would not be here, closing the books on a third consecutive year of solid operating surplus. To all who supported CTC this year—thank you!
Through your support, CTC was able to achieve a number of fantastic financial successes this year. Our holiday show, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, became the bestselling show in CTC history, surpassing last year’s tremendously successful The Wizard of Oz. CTC also received a transformational investment from Target that will enable us to bring every second grade student in Minneapolis Public Schools to a show at CTC starting in 2013-2014. These surpluses have allowed us to continue to focus on paying down the balance of the debt we amassed during the economic downturn and we continue toward a goal of being debt-free by our 50th anniversary in 2015-2016—goal we will achieve only with your continued support.
Looking toward the future, we established a new committee of the Board of Governors in 2012-2013 charged with investigating new business initiatives and opportunities for revenue generation for the theatre. A significant component of this new work is an increase in touring activities, starting with a tour of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat to Manitoba Theatre for Young People in November and December of 2012. We continue to seek out new partnering opportunities in order to maximize our investment in the artists and plays on our stages and have some amazing projects in the works already. Watch our website for details.
Thank you for supporting Children’s Theatre Company—I look forward to welcoming you again and to another great season of theatre, education, and imagination!
